A Great Place To Live

Grandview Library – Policies

Grandview library is a joint library between City of Grandview and Yakima Valley College. Our policies are in line with a combination of these two entities and designed to create a safe place for community and students alike. We always welcome feedback. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or call 509-882-7034

Library Card

A signed application must be on file for all library patrons. Citizens living within Grandview city limits, City of Grandview employees, and YVC faculty and students can obtain a Grandview library card at no charge, however, they will be asked for verification of address, employment, or enrollment upon application.  All others will need to pay $18.00 per household per year.

Prospective patrons must show a current legal identification with photo. If the ID does not have the current physical address, please provide a piece of postmarked mail that shows the current physical address. We cannot accept PO boxes as physical addresses.

Each application must include a telephone number. A secondary phone number and an email are recommended.  If the applicant is under 14 years of age, or for any reason cannot legally enter into a contract, a legal parent or guardian will be required to sign the application card, meet the same requirements as the applicant, and have a library card of their own.

Internet & Computer Use

Grandview Library makes information available in a variety of formats, from print to audiovisual materials. In introducing the Internet as an information resource, the library’s goal is to enhance its existing collection in size and depth. As a public access agency, the library offers any citizen the opportunity to navigate the Internet for ideas, information and commentary that may be personally, professionally, and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages. The Internet is an unregulated medium enabling access to some material that may be offensive, disturbing, or illegal, which the library cannot successfully control or monitor. Individual users must accept responsibility for determining suitability of the content. Parents are encouraged to work closely with their children seeking material that is consistent with personal values.

To the extent practical, additional steps shall be taken to promote the safety and security of users covered under the Children’s Internet Protection Act, specifically: unauthorized access, including so-called ‘hacking,’ and other unlawful activities; and unauthorized disclosure, use and dissemination of personal information regarding minors. The Library shall receive permission from a parent or guardian before allowing Internet use to anyone under the age of 18.

Library staff can monitor what is on each computer screen in the library and appropriate action will take place if online behavior is deemed inappropriate for a public use computer.

Library computers are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
